Hi Folks! thanks for stopping by our little cabin home on the web. 🙂
We’ve got progress to report and some initial plans to share for the woodshed build project! The site has been cleared (with the exception of an old tree stump), and we have an initial building plan sketched out!
Here’s a quick before and after of the site:
We will be chopping out that stump, and creating a level spot above the rocks for a second “tier” of wood storage 48 inches deep. We need to fit at least 4 cords of firewood in this space, and so there will be a 3/4 pallet’s depth at the foot of the rocks and then another full pallet’s depth above them, along the entire 14 feet of length.
Here’s a rough sketch for what we’re thinking:
Since we’re building into the hillside, we will also need to address re-routing water runoff around the finished structure, so there will be more excavating to come for that as well.
There is an additional 8 feet of available space along the back of the cabin, but at this stage, we’re inclined to build the longer, double-tiered shed on the hillside first, and see if that will suffice, so that we can keep the cord wood further from the siding. We would also have more room for loading and unloading the shed if we left that area free.
We’re off to a good start! Stay tuned… Consider following us here and on Instagram if you haven’t yet (links in the sidebar), and we will keep you in the loop!
